O-Day Exploit is a term used for exploit codes that take advantage of security vulnerabilities unknown to the vendor of the product. As a result, they are unable to provide a security patch until the info gets public. Today, the term is a little overused these days, but the risk of getting owned by a new attack is a nightmare for every system administrator. There is not much one can do to prevent that, right?
Wrong! While not being a bullet-proof solution, there are some countermeasures out there that are able to stop even 0-Day exploits from being successful. In this movie, we demonstrate one such solution that is based on ASLR. We will exploit three different vulnerabilities present on Windows systems and afterwards try the same on a protected system. The student will see how effective ASLR-based solutions might be and were their weaknesses may lay.
The solution we show in this movie is a freely available tool that protects Windows systems from various attacks. It can be downloaded from the Internet. More in the movie.
Target audience: - People who want better secure their Windows systems from 0-Day exploits. - System administrators and security professionals who are interested in intrusion prevention systems, their efficiency and their potential weaknesses.
